The inspection found roof damage, and your client needs a written scope of work for the roof and comparable written bids from more than one contractor. Otter Quotes can create the scope of work and send it to multiple contractors, so your client can compare bids online. You can refer a client with a personal referral link.

What does my client need after the inspection finds roof damage?

Your client can start with the inspection report, which names what the inspector found. Contractors price a repair or replacement from a scope of work, a written list of the work to be done, and a comparison needs more than one written bid for that same scope. A client with one bid has nothing to compare it to.

The same two documents apply whether your client is the buyer or the seller. Bids written for different work do not compare, because each contractor may be pricing something different. When every contractor bids on the same written scope, the differences between the bids are easier to see. Our side-by-side worksheet for roofing bids is a table your client can fill in, one column per bid.

A set of written bids gives your client numbers, which can be used to schedule the work or to negotiate.

How does Otter Quotes work for my client?

Otter Quotes creates a written scope of work for the roof and sends it to multiple contractors. Contractors who bid all work from the same scope and the same professional measurements. Your client compares the bids online, next to reviews and licensing information, with no salesperson in the home, and chooses which bid to accept.

Here is the path for a client who comes from your referral link:

  1. The client opens your referral link and creates an account.
  2. The client purchases professional measurements of the property, or uploads measurements they already have.
  3. The client selects what needs to be quoted, such as the roof.
  4. Otter Quotes sends the scope of work to contractors, who can submit bids.
  5. The client compares the bids, chooses one, and signs the contract online.

Otter Quotes does not inspect roofs or assess damage, does not work with the client's insurance company, and does not sell upgrades. Contractors pay Otter Quotes a fee on the accepted bid.

What does it cost my client, and what does it cost me?

Your client pays an upfront charge of as little as $15 to purchase professional measurements that every contractor uses. If the client completes a job on the platform, that money is refunded to them. You pay nothing to sign up as a partner or to refer a client.

How do I refer a client, and what is the referral program?

Sign up as a real estate partner to get your personal referral link, then send the link to your client. When a client you refer completes a qualifying job, Otter Quotes pays you a referral fee. The fee is a flat dollar amount, not a percentage of anything.

The fee works like this:

$200 when a homeowner you refer completes a project of $10,000 or more. $50 on the same terms for referrals from partners you recruit.

The fee is for a completed job, and it is paid after Otter Quotes approves the payout (Partner Agreement, section 4.2).

Otter Quotes' tracking records for your referral link decide attribution (Partner Agreement, section 9).

Check your employment agreement and your governing licensing agency to make sure it is lawful for you to accept referral fees.

Frequently asked questions

Does Otter Quotes inspect the roof or assess the damage?

No. Otter Quotes does not offer inspections or assessments of a roof, and it does not work with the client's insurance company. Otter Quotes creates a written scope of work for the project and sends it to multiple contractors. Contractors who bid all price that same scope of work.

Does Otter Quotes recommend a contractor?

No. Contractors compete for the client's business on the platform, and the client decides which bid to accept. Contractors pay Otter Quotes a fee on the accepted bid. Otter Quotes is not a contractor and does not sell upgrades. Its role is to send the scope of work to contractors and put their bids side by side.

Can my client upload measurements instead of buying them?

Yes. A client who already has measurements, or data provided by an adjuster, can upload them instead of purchasing professional measurements. Otter Quotes works with that information to get bids from contractors. The upfront charge applies to measurements a client purchases.

How is the referral fee paid?

Otter Quotes pays a flat referral fee, a fixed dollar amount and not a percentage: $200 when a homeowner you refer completes a project of $10,000 or more. $50 on the same terms for referrals from partners you recruit. It is paid after the job is complete and the payout has been approved.

Does it cost an agent anything to join the program?

No. Signing up as a referral partner costs nothing, and there is no monthly cost or quota. Partners accept the partner agreement, receive a personal referral link, and track each referral in a partner dashboard. The partner terms are linked from the sign-up form.
